Weekend in the City

Home this afternoon, dreary and dark, but “in a good way” as Roger would say. I’m making Em’s plain foccacia for Thanksgiving today, and another with grapes and raisins Wednesday. We had a good weekend, beginning with Emma’s band concert Thursday night and the depositing of Mom at Doug & Marie’s afterwards. Emma’s band was truly excellent, the only negative being that as a french horn player she sits in the back and you can’t see her. I did NOT do the auntie thing and stand up and take her picture…THIS time anyway. Roger had an Oregon Encyclopedia board meeting Friday (Oregon will soon have it’s own encyclopedia), I shopped, wandered and..of course..had a coffee. The one on the black table came from the coffee shop at the Hawthorne ST Powell’s book store.

Friday night we saw Zach on TV (a segment on Channel 2 news called “Weird Portland” included street golfing, nude bike races, and the soap box derby), had dinner with Zach and heard of the latest Vestas newsnotes. Saturday was art all day–visits with various gallery owners–and a coffee at the Pearl Bakery (the white table), it was a warm afternoon, fall-like, pleasant. A nice dinner, a little walk around the neighborhood. When we got home today I really thought one value of the little apartment is that the house just seems PALATIAL when we get home.
