Hi readers…it’s been two months since my last bulletin, and I’ll have to hustle to post this as October is about to become Hull birthday month, also known at November. I’ve been musing about why I rarely post on this blog anymore…the answer is Instagram. No narrative, just images…but the Snail Blog has provided me […]

Art Laundry and Where Art Comes From
This week of working in the backyard studio with Carolyn Schneider, somebody I’ve known since the 7th grade when we met in an art class, has been fun. Interesting. Poignant. Hilarious. Sad. Our own work, our dead mothers and fathers, our family dynamics, aging, our own work…all this talk whirling around while we have worked […]
Marie Watt/Project Space/Tour of Homes
This seems to be the week for odd splices on this blog…bear with me (as Mark Siegel used to say…). Brooklyn artist/sculptor Marie Watt is doing a specific blanket piece for the Hallie Ford Museum of Art here in Salem. To that end I’m donating a family blanket to the project. Each blanket will have […]
Portland Friday
Today was a bit gloomy in that good Fall way…leaves fluttering down, a bit of rain. We took off early for Portland and after an errand, we caught up on a few shows in the galleries currently on… by some of our favorite artists… PDX Gallery (9th and Flanders) is featuring a very nice Marie […]
One More Week for the Marie Watt Show…
The Marie Watt show “Lodge” at the Hallie Ford Museum of Art in Salem is coming to a close this Sunday…but the museum IS open Sunday, from 1:00 to 5:00. Better go take a look…the show will leave Salem and travel to the Tacoma Art Museum…
Marie Watt at the Hallie Ford Museum…
My final picture of the 2012 version of “Dwelling” with the artist Marie Watt, her daughter Evelyn, and the big stack o’ blankets. Friday night was the ceremonial opening of the show, delayed for a month until Evelyn was born and Marie could be here from New York. Marie spoke interestingly about her work and […]
“Dwelling”…
Here’s the quick version of the assembling of Marie Watt’s piece “Dwelling” for her current show at the Hallie Ford Museum of Art…don’t forget the opening is Friday, March 9th! David Andersen set up this time-lapse camera and made this neat condensation of a week’s work…
Quilt Update…
So much creative stuff to do, so little time…learning “brushes” on the iPad, sent off the little quilt for Baby Evelyn using left-over pieces of binding from the “Dwelling” project… and she seems to like it…(awww..so cute!) Today I have the Value-Village-sheet quilt on the design wall trying to decide if the zig-zags (I seem […]
The Home Stretch for Dwelling (and Engine)
By Friday afternoon the stack is 800 blankets tall…and Angela said they are aiming for 988 and finishing by the end of the work day today! The scaffolds are now in use to reach the top of the pile, and everyone is working in stocking feet…take a look: Maybe a little bit a fatigue is […]
Dwelling/Engine
I dropped by the Hallie Ford Museum at the end of the afternoon Thursday to check on progress and they have really been working…as I arrived the team (which included Museum Director John Olbrantz) was in their socks ready to carry and attach the cladding for “Engine”… and here’s the interior of the lower “entrance” […]
