I hate to derail my Italian train of thought, but just heard from Bru that Edith Macefield died in Seattle this weekend at age 86. Edith is the Ballard woman who just wanted to live out her life in her own little house and decided not to sell for $1,000,000,000 to Trader Joe’s. Hurrah Edith. (The PI reports that her estate goes to the job foreman who looked after her these last couple of years. ) Trader Joe’s went right ahead and built around her little house.
