COMMUNITY SUPPORTED AGRICULTURE

I’ve become a strong supporter of the “CSA” movement over the last couple of years.  This year the season was 26 weeks, this week was week 23.  Each week a truck parks for a couple of hours across the street from our house, downloading the many boxes for subscribers.  Along with the box comes a sheet with recipes and comments from the wonderful farmers Tom and Elizabeth Denison.  The idea is that you pay at the beginning so the Denisons get their money up front, then having not to borrow  from banks, etc.  There are over 400 subscribers in about a 60 miles radius, and the Denisons also sell to markets and work the farmer’s market circuit.  The produce has been wonderful and we’re already feeling sad to see the season end.  Our meal planning is now based around “the box”.
