I’m thinking of past Christmases, way way back. My Uncle John arriving at 6:00 with a santa hat and sleigh bells. Nana snoring on the living room side of the door–keeping us from going in to see the tree. Putting up the huge tree on Christmas Eve…the huge tree…that is the heart of the matter. […]

The a-little-bit-boring snow saga….
I’m getting tired of all this “winter wonderland” stuff. But here we go: We got the car out, we went to the Safeway with 4-wheel-drive-Gloria, fortification arrived from friends returning from England. The food is made and the temperature is rising. I for one am looking forward to the gleaming Oregon green. But….it WAS beautiful
Monday, Snow Day.
So I had a dream last night that all the snow had melted and everything was back to Oregon shiny green. Oops. Not so fast. Yesterday…. this morning…. And now the new challenge. The camellia has fallen on to the car. We need toilet paper and wine and protein. An adventure lies ahead.
…And then the power went out…
R working on his computer, me painting and then that sort of sickening sound—eeeeeurgh–dark, cold, ugh. I found a whole big pack if Ikea votives, a box of candles, two flashlights. Roger started a fire. We shut down the house. At 4:30 Margaret and Alisa arrived for a drink and holiday cheer. Roger took them […]
Deep Freeze!!!
So the storm started yesterday and today we are living in a meringue–hard, slick crunchy. Half the bamboo fell into Jason’s yard and half fell into our yard taking out Jason’s phone line. Oops. The camellia tipped onto the roof of the car: At 3:00 P.M. IT’S ONLY 28 degrees. We only have one bottle […]
Shop Local This Christmas
It isn’t just NYC that has great places to shop and eat. Today my shopper friend (the lovely Irene) and I started out in Salem and spent 4 hours doing our Christmas shopping without stepping into a “big box” or a chain restaurant. The day was total fun and we filled our shopping bags to […]
It Was Fun…
Lots of people today, lots of talking. And, mid-afternoon, the snow started coming down. Beautiful.
We’re Ready…
Well we “tidied up” today–this would be a euphemism for slogging through piles of stuff for about 10 hours. But, the house looks good for the open house…and we remember again the true thing: tidying up for the open house means it’s all in order for Christmas! Hooray!!! And we have been reminded again today […]
Neighborhood Christmas House Tour
Doug says a big storm is heading for us this weekend–just in time to make the Court/Chemeketa Residential Historic District house tour exciting! Sunday from 1-5 about 18 houses in the neighborhood will be open, including ours. Here’s a little image of Christmas past–in this case 1985. Various neighbors will be showcasing their own art […]
Harry Widman: The Final Proof
The book goes to the printer Monday so Roger has been working and the “final” proof (there will actually be another proof–the printer’s proof–still to come). It will be a relief to have it off and away for a bit. (Sorry these photos are so dark…) (This is the painting that went missing and was […]
