Funnily enough, I walked downstairs yesterday at about the same time here, and thought exactly the same thing. Soon: out into the city, on our bikes! Not tomorrow, though – 8 degrees here.
Lot of people are riding in from Virginia and Maryland, but they have to check their rides with a bike valet outside the “Inaugural Perimieter.” And by all estimates, the crowds will be so huge that a bike will be a liability. The Post’s mantra these days: dress warm, and walk.
This morning we read that many who had hoped to kayak to the events would be disappointed. The Coast Guard has shut off the Potomac and the Anacostia from Alexandria north past Georgetown to ALL river traffic. They will have 40 patrol boats at work.
About 3 blocks west of us. We’ve been told that if you go down to the mall, and inside the perimeter, there will be no backpacks, strollers, umbrellas, etc. It’s going to be very tight.
We were out this afternoon running an errand, and there are more barriers up all over the place. Union Station was very busy, even at 3:00 in the afternoon, and traffic was a total mess. Can’t be sure, but it appears they are already closing streets. The buzz is now a dull roar. Events begin tomorrow, and really pick up on Sunday with a massive event at the Lincoln Memorial. We are getting new instructions daily in the Post – this place is fast becoming a zoo.

I suppose you can’t really ride your bikes to the inauguration?? Crowds. police lines, etc.?

It’s getting interesting….
How–how close is the “inaugaral Perimeter to your house?”

But everyone is really happy, for sure.
