A Corvallis Monday

My plan today was to go to Corvallis to take Claudia her rock (see next post for that story).  Ella sent an email this morning about a Corvallis guy who is building a foam house in her neighborhood–600 square feet.  Because of Howard,  I felt responsible for checking it out.  Then lunch, of course.

Okay, the guy is called Dale the Builder and he’s a builder/contractor.  He heard of this company in Fife, WA, that makes the building foam.  It allows houses to be 33% more energy efficient than the most efficient stick built house.  Everything is very light weight and the basic construction can be done with two guys.  It takes more like 12 weeks to build a house versus the usual 17, thereby saving on labor costs.  This particular house is a “mother-in-law” house behind the main house.  Claudia was interested as they’re thinking of building something small (with a nearby BIG studio) one day.  Dale was exceedingly nice and when he saw me taking photos he came to chat with us.

After the foundation was in place Dale and his helper put the rest of the structure up in less than a week.

Dale designed the house, had the plans digitized and sent to the foam company.  The house sections were then trucked down.

The we went to see the Rhaodes’ new paint job and say hi but Ella was having acupuncture (I did that once–eek).

  1. Oh good–I hoped you would see that I’d been there. We walked all around the house peeking into the yard but, not wishing to get arrested, NOT going in. Claudia and Dale bonded and he gave her his card. On we go. I LIKE Corvallis. xxoo B

  2. Aren’t you glad you stuck around for the 40 yrs!? Really, though, yea Salem. Beautiful view from the bridge.
