On Tuesday night we heard the excellent James E. Hansen speak at Willamette University giving the annual Dempsey environmental lecture. Hansen is not a totally charismatic speaker, but the message was all the more grave as the audience began to understand that he was spending his life not only in research and writing, but in trying to bring US the message that WE are experiencing the result of global warming NOW, and it will get worse and worse…more floods, more severe storms, loss of animal species…it was frightening. And then yesterday, as a sort of follow up, we had the beautiful snowstorm…that, though, was happening on March 21…
