I’ve been hit hard this flu season…three weeks at Christmas and three more weeks in Jan/Feb. Thank goodness for quilts (this one made by my friend Sharon) and books…
…and if you haven’t read Colin Meloy’s YA adventure “Wildwood,” consider it…the main locale is Portland and it is a VERY fun read…here are the maps
Meloy is the lead singer for the Decemberists and his wife Carson Ellis made the illustrations. Think Narnia.
I had to amuse myself with low-key and very local amusements…
but I made it to an art opening at the High Street Gallery to see the work of Carol Hausser
Gary Westford:
and Susan Napack (I bought this one)
Michael Hernandez and Angee Schmitt are working hard to make an interesting gallery but also to foster an art community here in Salem…(here’s painter Marilyn Krug, with Art Department owner Jim Viegland in the background and curator/artist Jonathan Bucci with Schmidt)
We celebrated Valentin’s Day a day early at Rafn’s
we visited a Lucinda Parker painting (“Rootstock” 2001) in a storage unit,
saw a Louisiana Bendolph print at the Hallie Ford Museum of Art
and a small Yayoi Kusama on loan to the museum…
…and then spirits lifted at the car wash…
and the Fat Tuesday party over at Max’s (face painting by Janet Reese)
but on the down side two huge and beautiful trees were removed from our street for 30 feet of sidewalk…
and this continuing horrendous problem
so for focus and calm I’m going with spring…
Hope you’re DONE with flu! That’s twice too often. So sorry about your beautiful street trees too.
Elaine I’m done for sure…but the trees will confound me forever…they were particularly spectacularly yellow in fall…xo
Hello Bonnie,
Thank you for the mention of High St. Gallery. We appreciate your support.
Angee and I’s names are misspelled, Hernandez and Schmitt.
Hope you’re feeling better, Michael
