A lot of work was done today and we both have sore backs! The theme that is emerging is “books”. I played with my laminated paper in layers, later on photocopying onto the colored layers. Carolyn discovered embossing and went for broke. I didn’t take many photos today, but here’s a little of how it […]

Art Week, Day One
Carolyn’s here. Art week has begun with a lot of experimentation: I transferred hot wax to block prints on newsprint to make the Fig Book: And we did prep work for tomorrow for laminations and transfer prints: and then we just played with Yuppo paper and had a snack:
Miscellany…
Howard & Amy visiting all week, too scattered to post. Here are a few recent activities: 40th anniversary dinner at the Bay House: One of the very last napkins for lunch: Two memorial services last weekend–Saturday for sculptor Manuel Izquierdo at PNCA: Sunday up to Timberline Lodge to honor the memory of Doug Lynch. If […]
George Johanson at OCAC
Went up to the Hoffman Gallery at the Oregon College of Arts and Crafts today to see a show of George’s tiled pieces. They are elegantly composed and filled with great details telling us the loveliness of living on the rivers in Portland: the “figure” (Roger) is there so you can see the size of […]
Kristin Kuhns at Bush Barn
Tonight was Kristin’s opening. The show was wonderful–over the top. A reflection of over a year of inhabiting and thinking about the Zena Experimental Forest. But a year of thinking about fathers and mothers, arts and crafts, thinking and making. The work is beautiful and when I go back and am alone with it I’ll […]
D.E. MAY at PDX
Went to Portland yesterday to see Dan’s new show. It is wonderful with Dan’s usual light touch and nuanced focus. My pictures aren’t too good–please go look. PDX, corner of Flanders and 9th NW. An anonymous donor had arranged to donate a Louis Bunce painting to the Hallie Ford Museum and Roger was to pick […]
PNCA at 100
Last night was the opening of a really beautiful new show at the Portland Art Museum. Filling the big main floor galleries is a blockbuster collection of the work of the many talented teachers over the years from the Pacific NW College of Art–formerly the Museum School. It gives these artists their due in a […]
Living the Creative Life: Ella Rhoades
I first got to know Ella at the beach through shared Urban Renewal meetings and projects. When visiting her beach house (“The Cosmic Cottage”) I was delighted by all the mosaic work underway: The Cosmic Cottage (the porch columns are all mosaic). The mermaid shrine… kitchen backsplash at Cosmic. So yesterday I visited her home […]
Artists with Breakfast…
About once a month a bunch of artists get together for breakfast and have some shop talk and just regular talk. Today it was at Corrie’s and it was fun. Ronan and Sadie joined us today and they were all about music. They have the four-hand piano piece worked out and now are working on […]
Blackfish Gallery at 30
Last night I packed my Puffs Plus and we went up to Portland to attend the gala dinner in celebration of Blackfish Gallery’s 30th anniversary. It was total fun and involved lots of art and lots of laughing, plus a few songs by Paul Missal. It was an old fashioned potluck and even had door […]
