Realizing, as from a caffeine-induced bolt from above, one afternoon recently that I’ve been documenting my coffees for years–decades even. Some classics:
Caffe correcto from the Gilli Cafe in Piazza della Republica, Firenze, May, 1993. The idea of “corrected” coffee is that you add brandy or grappa, or anything you like. This particular coffee was corrected with grappa.
Cappuccino from the Jolly Cafe on Piazza Santa Maria Novella, 5-28-93, watching the sciopero (strike) parade after the Uffizzi bombing
An example of “divoto”–visually simplified, direct. A cappuccino from the Bar/Pasticheria on Pza SMN. 6-6-05.
The Last cappuccino in Firenze as we begin to disconnect from the “groupo”, 6-9-05

I love your blog. Keep up the good work. I can smell the coffee!
This site is fantastic!! I had no idea that you were going at this rate – yikes! We’re way behind. Go, Bon, go.
I added a comment below on the State Hospital – these places really are fascinating to us, since Amy has spent so much time involved with another Kirkride Hospital here, St. Elizabeth’s, over which an enormous preservation battle is brewing. (Pardon the pun).
The drawings are fab. I guess you got your scanner fixed. Do you have one of those scanners that allows you to scan stuff while still in your sketchbook? Ours won’t, and it drives me nuts.
Thanks guys. Your support has been VERY helpful. My scanner still isn’t working so I just photo’d the drawings, which is why they’re so yellow. Hmmm.
I actually kind of like the yellowy ones – but am glad to hear you got the scanner fixed! Now I need a coffee too….
