Sketchbook “World Tour” and James Hill

Wow…yesterday was just total fun all the way…and a beautiful sunny day to boot.  First we went to The Cleaners at the Ace Hotel (corner of 10th and Stark) where the Sketchbook World Tour 2012 is hanging out for three days.

I had a sketchbook in the mix and wanted to go “check it out” (literally). First you have to sign up and get a card…

then you can search for an artist, or a topic…

and they bring you a few books…so you retire to a table and read…of course I had to check out my own book first…

revisiting some drawings of my favorite subject…

here seen with the drawing…

but then there were other books to look at…

and more…

and the most fun of all…

Jill Green of Seattle who I met in line…she makes baskets and her book is very cool…

…and here’s Jill Green the person…

and interestingly as it turned out, the two other women at the table were from Seattle and had driven down just to see the books…

I sent a quick sketch back to Brooklyn…

the “Library” is open Saturday and Sunday in Portland before continuing on the world tour…better “check it out” (and thanks to Nan here, who alerted me to the sketchbook project initially, which I’ve enjoyed).

Then on to Gruner (12th and Alder) for an EXCELLENT meal and fantastic service,

and across the street to the First Presbyterian Church…

to hear my ukulele idol James Hill, playing with talented people for a terrific evening of  music…

  1. Well, I am not at a uke concert but I am at a production…out at Jack’s Kings School (which is a beautiful campus– all Englush Tudor style 3 story buildings) for a production of Peter Pan.
The logistics of getting these 3 kids to all their activities is mind boggling! Jim is at a Sounders game with Lily–AJ at a movie preview. Today I had brunch and mass at 9 at Kennedy with moms, gmoms and ggmom. Lily had a Lacrosse game (she scored, they lost) then hula. Jim and Jack rode all 18 miles and Lily and I driove to Jake’s baseball game (they won) and then I came home and fixed dinner before leaving for the play. Are you tired yet?????

  2. Megan and I happened on the Williamsburg, Brooklyn headquarters of the Sketchbook Project two weeks ago, and I gathered up their card to tell you about the place. You are ahead of me…always seeing and celebrating creativity. Thanks for all the posts. For anyone reading who is heading to NYC, the East River Ferry Ride is a pleasant diversion.
