News Notes…

I think I might be taking my “girl reporter” role a LITTLE too seriously.  I Just HATE it when the local paper scoops me.  A month or so ago I noticed this building at 440 State Street…that the hideous 1960’s false front had been removed revealing a sort of “time capsule”…

and before I could tell you about it, the paper wrote it up…(thereby saving me having to do the research and providing both an historic photo from the 40″s and a photo of the 1960’s false front…okay, I’m weakening on the paper…)

it will be fun to watch the transformation…

Then I went over to check on what Dave has been up to and as I got near the bridge I heard a tremendous “CRACK” and an entire huge branch fell off the big tree near the island….wow…

and incidentally there are a couple of new things on the island…

AND finally…remember my post in May of 2011 (I know you’re saying no to that one!) about the Littman sculptures on the former bank building downtown??  Well, since we know there is synchronicity in all things, check out this photo R found in a Manuel Izquierdo scrapbook he was recently loaned…

It’s Manuel on the left and somebody named Sam on the right, in front of the bank building reliefs…date?  July 4, 1947!  Happy 4th…stay safe!
