Cayla Skillin-Brauchle at the HFMA

You only have until May 15th to go to the Hallie Ford Museum of Art to see “Cayla Skillin-Braucle: Locating”…work by Willamette faculty member Cayla Skillin-Brauchle on view in conjunction with an exhibit of senior graduating art students. Skillin-Brauchle teaches drawing, installation art, social practice, and performance art in the Willamette University Art Department.

This exhibit included two performances seen on line of “Our Bodies Know the Way” with senior art major Cal Lawton and lots of mixed media pieces including drawings and mixed media fabric pieces. Here’s Cayla engaging with a wonderful installation by senior art major Brooke Bailey…

I’m a little rusty on my image taking these days, and there were no labels, so here are a few of Cayla’s very nice drawings…she was working toward this exhibit for 2020…and in 2019 mentioned she felt the world was ready to explode, something that is present in the images on view. The pandemic closed the museum, and the world, but Cayla continued mapping her thoughts and observations to add to this 2021 exhibit.

(My first visit to Skillin-Brauchle’s studio was in 2019 to deliver a quilt for the coming explosion in her personal life, and here is Nico on that quilt!)

The museum hours currently are Tuesday through Saturday from 12-5 p.m. Go take a look…
