LeeAnn found quilting a few years ago and has been “possessed” by it ever since. She’s in an evolving creative process that has seen a variety of fabric types and quilt construction, and has a focus and a passion for the work that is admirable….. also a wonderful eye for color and combinations. In the […]

Quonsets and Airstreams
When you start looking for things you find them. In Seattle this weekend, in addition to seeing a ton of quilts (and a wonderful show of R. Crumb drawings at the Frye), eating some great meals and laughing a lot, I came across a classic Quonset with a water/city view and Roger’s dream writer’s studio: […]
A Train Trip
Just back from a jaunt to Seattle amazed anew by the fun of taking the train. The stations are beautiful, it’s calm and quiet. You can walk around. You don’t have to wear a seat belt or be strip-searched before getting on. You arrive and discover you aren’t stressed or harassed. It’s American. It’s nice. […]
The Going-away Post…
or “tidying the export folder”. A few left-over images I never posted this week which will just look totally random–and are. Tomorrow I head north to Seattle on the train for the weekend quilting with sister-in-law LeeAnn, hanging out with brother Bruce. More on the trip next week but for now: The beautiful round brick […]
Not Quite a Quonset hut…
but it does have qualities. The satellite dish, the trailer hitch coming out of cement block, no stairs. Roger has a sort of trailer fantasy–trailer-as-writer’s- office-in-back-yard (I think he’s thinking Airstream…) so we always notice them.
Sunday
Don’t you just love how one thing leads to another? Searching for the memeo-matic a couple of weeks ago we found The Cup and Saucer and Winston’s at 30th and Killingsworth: Wending our way south after breakfast we found the corner of N. Williams & Russell, a corner painted by Charles Heaney in the 1920’s […]
The Belluschi Church
So we read in the Oregonian this week about the church designed by Pietro Belluschi in 1950. As the parish waned in numbers and money was scarce, the congregation decided to take down the 58 year old bell tower which needed repair. Not so fast. It’s historic. They’re now raising the $150,000 it will cost […]
28th Street, Saturday
So we get to Portland and grab a quick coffee before we walk around. Not a truly beautiful coffee but…… Spring has come to the neighborhood and not only trees are blooming…. but there’s a new crop of music posters causing me to picture the moment this one group said “How about ‘Climber Siberian and […]
Neighborhood News
It’s been a low news week on Court Street, but here’s what we have: The noisy masons have finished and gone. A stolen basket ball standard has been left in a parking place, The kids working in the anarchy press office, which has sadly taken over a beautiful historic house on our corner, have lost […]
Coffee
Went out for coffee today, asked for a “real” cup. Got this un-lovely sub-standard coffee brought in a paper cup. Tsk.
