Yesterday my sister-in-law LeeAnn put a post on her quilting blog about Christmas stockings…hers and my brother Bruce’s from their childhoods. Of course I had to go hunting for our Christmas stockings, which we haven’t put out for a few years. When I was about 9 and Bru was a baby my Mom made these stockings for each of us from kits. Meanwhile in Idaho Roger’s Christmas stocking was MUCH bigger and not so “stocking shaped” as mine. When I was little we got an orange in the toe, a bunch of nuts and maybe one or two “things”.
In the 70’s when Zach was little I made three stockings out of my old curtains from my single girl apartment, “cleverly” (I believed…) using the faded side of the felt for the letters and images…
…and of course…
our terrific golden retriever Chipper had his own stocking…
Great stockings! Wouldn’t it be fun to have a felt stocking show? Maybe next year.
I love this post! We used to get tangerines instead of oranges, and I make a point of putting one in each stocking wherever we are on Christmas morning.
I still have my own custom-made stocking from the 1970s, and I love it so much that I have made quilted stockings for all of the nieces and nephews. I just ran out of recipients last year.
