Dorothy (as we call the lady in our GPS, thanks to Richard and Carol) took us STRAIGHT to the beach Friday…
stopping only long enough for a glass of wine and a few “small plates” at the Inn at Spanish Head (where we were supervised closely)…
and some veg.
Saturday dawned warm and sunny and we had a plan. R had a discount coupon for the dump so he raked and gathered yard debri and we headed off to Newport with the local dump (I mean the “Sanitary Landfill”) as the first stop. So down this pretty country road and up the hill…you’d think we were going camping, but nope…
and they have great signs there too…
and then off to Newport, taking the scenic route which includes the Otter Crest Loop and a great view of this wonderful little Conde McCullough bridge over Rocky Creek…
and the house I would most like to have on the whole coast…
and down past the BIG bridge…
to Local Ocean Seafood for lunch.
On the way home we stopped at the Crab Pot for dinner fish and discovered the horrible truth…the big storm took out his wonderful vintage signs…
but GOOD NEWS…he’s having a muralist repaint the crab sign! Phew. Landmark.
So summer is coming, we sat out on the patio in the warmth…me sewing…
and this one’s for Nyima, who emailed me this morning from half a world away….
Just got home from Whitman class reunion with 20 pounds of freshly picked Walla Walla asparagus and six pounds of beautifully red freshly gathered rhubarb in the ice chest I took along just in case the asparagus was ready to be picked. Great time with college friends, and with Sarah, Jack, Martha and the little girls, too!
What a fun trip! Now I know where to take the hide-a-bed.
What I wouldn’t give for some fresh seafood! And that house on the coast! Sounds like a dreamy getaway
wonderful read on the 1st day of may! as always, we enjoy our vicarious experiences with you. (san & dave)
