I think it’s been a while since I reported in on the “Snail Blog”…the daily postcards sent by my friend Ellen in Vermont…the new series of collected cards is the “Huge Fake Animal” series which is a total crack-up…
One of my photography instructors in grad school did a book with a bunch of landmarks like these, but not limited to animals. Check out David Graham “American Beauty”. 🙂
Grandson Max and I saw the giant cow in N.D. when on our Nat’l Park roundabout road trip a few years ago. Bizarro. Also in the same general area is a series of giant sculptures one after another out in the middle of nowhere…birds, deer, fish, etc. For road diversion, we stopped to enjoy one sculpture long enough to play “catch the grasshoppers”.

What a wonderful friend you have!
No Kidding!!!!
Great selection of subjects! Love the benign monster dog.
I think the dog is Nipper? The RCA dog?

In love with these as well as the people who created them, the era in which America embraced such roadside icons..
