It’s sooooo cold here today. I went by the creek planting site this morning on my way back from the last Thanksgiving errands, and though all the holes were neatly dug, the planters weren’t there…too cold I thought: but on our way to coffee we did a quick drive by just in case and found […]

Making a Difference…(and the historic perspective)
Luke Westphal and Caprielle Barlow both graduated from Willamette University last spring…she in bio/chem, he in environmental science. For his senior thesis project Luke designed an area in the ODOT right of way under the Mission Street fly-over in which his idea was to rid the creek bank of the invasive species growing there (mostly […]
A BEAUTIFUL DAY…
Went up to Bird’s Hill for lunch today and what a relief to have a little respite from politics and campaign ads and results that make us sad. Martha has beautiful views and though it doesn’t show up in the photo, MT Hood was right in the middle: Everything at Bird’s Hill is beautiful, serene, […]
Free Bouquets…
This coming week we start to build the studio (!!!) so I had to trim the big hydrangea this morning so the workmen can get by it. I put out 2 big bouquets of hydrangeas…they make such pretty bouquets in the house in the fall…with a free sign on them…it seemed a shame to stash […]
TRENCH DAY!!!
Little notes have been left by various guys: no TV/no cable no PGE/no NWNG (I love these little notes…) so Bill showed up early to begin hand-digging the trench: Very cleverly he put masking tape 18 inches up the shovel handle to be able to measure the trench as he goes…what a genius. Oh, a […]
THE GARDEN STUDIO…
Today Bill came and pulled up the bricks where the trench for the electrical will go then came the super fun part…painting the white line. Tomorrow PGE will come to check before we dig: Wednesday Bill comes back and digs the trench…
Off we go!!!
The “site” is ready the pots are watered the hydrangeas are cut and the bags are packed…see you in October!!!
Goodbye Laurel Tree…
John and Paul are here today and tomorrow “clearing the site” for the new “garden shed”. We had to remove a badly overgrown laurel tree (it was a 3 foot high shrub when we moved here in 1980) and it is a bit of a shock…here’s the “BEFORE” the “during” and…gulp…the “after”:
A Rainy Day
Everybody’s talking about it…the weather. September 8th and it’s raining already: Here are the good things I can come up with today. Local berries: Staying inside to read R’s manuscript on Henk Pander: Day-dreaming about the new “garden shed”…they’re coming Monday to cut down the laurel and clear the site: and, of course, it’s dahlia […]
The White Garden
As we sat on the deck for supper tonight the last bit of sunlight hit the peegee hydrangea…my FAVORITE plant. As I ran for my camera and quickly got the shot, I noticed that the entire garden was drifts of white. Here is a stroll through our garden this evening: nicotiana the little hydrangea Amelie […]
