Molokai Views…
Here’s a quick review of our week on Molokai from the ridiculous to the sublime…a gorgeous but sad view of Kalaupapa, the leper colony. In the 1800’s people would bring those ill with leprosy and dump them into the surf and paddle away. Sight of incredible suffering and breathtakingly beautiful. After 1969, due to sulfa […]
Na Wahine O Ke Kai
Every year paddlers from around the islands, and around the world, come to Molokai for a big race. In September teams of women come to race the 42 miles across to Oahu, around Diamond Head to Wakiki (in October it will be the men’s turn). Though the finish of the race is glitzy, the start […]
Wind Towers???
On the drive from the airport to our condo we discovered immediately the big controversy on Molokai…wind power. They don’t want it, or more precisely, they don’t want it on historic pieces of land. (The show goes up the first week of October at Bush Barn Art Center…Quiltopia week…) the “reconfigured” wedding ring (the Project Space project) goes along with me to Hawaii, with my goal […]

Goodbye Laurel Tree…
John and Paul are here today and tomorrow “clearing the site” for the new “garden shed”. We had to remove a badly overgrown laurel tree (it was a 3 foot high shrub when we moved here in 1980) and it is a bit of a shock…here’s the “BEFORE” the “during” and…gulp…the “after”:
