I’m in love with Sue-Del’s Akebana cherry tree, and we’d set Monday as the day I might come out and take a look. She and John planted it when it was a “whip” no bigger than her finger. Now it sits majestically with it’s columns (designed by architect friend Bill Lindburg) and although the buds […]

Artweek…2011
Here’s a little story…two girls met in art class in 7th grade. They became friends. They dressed in black (like “beatniks”) and took the El to the Loop to the Art Institute to “hang out”…and many years later they began the annual “artweek” visitations. Sometimes in Carolyn’s studio in California, sometimes in mine in Salem. […]
Farewell to Henk…
Henk’s off to Holland soon to do business, to paint, to see family…and here’s his little carry-case for art supplies…(yes, it’s 4 feet tall…) we looked at some drawings and we checked a new still life just underway checked out the real still life and had some lunch. Safe travels, friend.
Art Wolfe
I forgot to say that on the way into Seattle we picked my brother up. He works for the nature photographer Art Wolfe so we stopped by the gallery on our way to Indian food… Among my favorites are these images (poorly photographed by me…much nicer as made by Art Wolfe…) This GORGEOUS temple/snow shot […]
The Garden Studio Build..inside
Uh oh…I’m losing track of days. Maybe today was day 6. Five and six were inside days…the beadboard ceiling went up, the walls… by the end of today it was a bit tidier…getting ready for priming and painting the walls this weekend Monday the electrical plugs and lights, then trim. The door and windows are […]
The Garden Studio Build: day 4
They were here about 9:30 this morning (which is early, given that they come from Rainier). By 10:00 the shingles had started and by noon they Kevin was finishing the roof while Dan worked on shingles I went upstairs to sew about 1:30 and when I came down at 3:30 they were making progress! Wayne’s […]
THE GARDEN STUDIO…

A Rainy Day
Everybody’s talking about it…the weather. September 8th and it’s raining already: Here are the good things I can come up with today. Local berries: Staying inside to read R’s manuscript on Henk Pander: Day-dreaming about the new “garden shed”…they’re coming Monday to cut down the laurel and clear the site: and, of course, it’s dahlia […]
LIVING THE CREATIVE LIFE: Carolyn Schneider and “The Lost Coast”
Sunday was another sunny day and we headed north across the Golden Gate to Fort Bragg (about 10 miles north of Mendocino). They call it the “Lost Coast” for reasons I don’t know but it IS a hike–four hours from any airport etc. It rained and poured the day I was there so I have […]
Friday Report from the Annex…
The Annex studio is in the middle of a terrific park. Part of my time there involves letting the setting infiltrate my thinking. This week, after some warm weather, everything is just POPPING! Here’s the scene right outside my patio door: and a closer view reveals bleeding heart: these cool little bamboo things: One of […]
