Sunday was another sunny day and we headed north across the Golden Gate to Fort Bragg (about 10 miles north of Mendocino). They call it the “Lost Coast” for reasons I don’t know but it IS a hike–four hours from any airport etc. It rained and poured the day I was there so I have […]

San Francisco briefly…
Well I failed utterly in getting secret photos of the two big shows I went to see…there are LOTS of guards at the de Young Museum and at SFMOMA…and they don’t fool around. Let me just say though, that both the Luc Tuymans show (at SFMOMA) and the Amish quilt show (at the de Young) […]
A Brief Interlude….
will now be taken while I head off to San Francisco to consider Belgian painters, Amish quilts and just HOW good Carolyn I really are at writing tankas! In the meantime, if you’re in town, head over to the Hallie Ford Museum to catch a small but LOVELY show of African stone sculpture from the […]
Happy Birthday to me!
I’m in the midst of “Birthday Week.” Today is the actual day. (It seems a long time ago when I was born in Evanston, Illinois…but really it WAS a long time ago.) So far this week the celebrations have included the following confectionery moments: and here’s the lucky little me:

Pretty Coffee: Poured vs. composed…
At Karen’s suggestion I tried the newest Salem cafe “Alcyone” (315 High ST SE, Pringle Park Plaza) for a pretty coffee and saw we had a little tutorial between a “composed” design and a “poured” design: and the gluten-free poppy seed bread was good too!!!
Gwen Marston at The Stitchin’ Post
Last Sunday four Seattle-ites swooped into town and we all took off east over the mountains for a two day workshop with famous quilter Gwen Marston. She was teaching the workshop in the back room at the WONDERFUL Sisters’ fabric shop called The Stitchin’ Post. After a bit of a lecture and “show and tell” […]
First Thursday…
Up to Portland for a street car ride from the south waterfront to the Pearl, dinner at Silk and then over to Blackfish Gallery for the Paul Missal/Nancy Lindburg/Bill Owen show. It has now been officially confirmed…if I’m schmoozing I can’t take good pictures. But, here you go. The show was mostly Paul and featured […]
KMUZ, the voice of the valley…
Last night we went to an informational event for KMUZ, Salem’s newly licensed community radio station. They have the FCC license and now have until August 12, 2011, to get the money together to get on the air. Information was given, refreshments were offered and then we got to tour “the station”, two rooms in […]
