…On the Design Wall…
Here’s a quilting update..red and white quilt finished..design good, applique not so good, quilting good+… I’m slowly turning the Indian skirt I got at Value village into a log cabin-ish quilt…it was a bunch of strips sewn together which I took apart… then cut the strips in half… added strips from an old sheet… voila: […]
Art Sleuths…Alert….
In 1959 there was an exposition celebrating Oregon’s centennial in north Portland along the Columbia river in the Kenton neighborhood…”The Oregon Centennial Exposition and Trade Fair”. The building pictured here, the Forest Products Pavilion, was designed by John Storrs and was built as a permanent structure, though has since been torn down. Inside the Pavilion […]
Rothko, “Red”, and a day away…
Today we took a “vacation” day. We went to a matinee at Portland Center stage….haven’t been there yet? Do go… we went to see “Red” a play by John Logan about the painter Mark Rothko (1903-1970). The play was fascinating, mordant, funny…worth the trip up I-5… and then on to the Portland Art Museum where […]
The Amazing Way Life Is…
Still on the Manuel Izquierdo trail. For MONTHS R has been searching for a sculpture that was at the Seattle World’s Fair “Century 21” in 1962, which was called “Figure”. He had a photocopy of a B&W photo showing the piece… but nobody knew where it was. Katrina at Laura Russo tried to track it […]

My final picture of the 2012 version of “Dwelling” with the artist Marie Watt, her daughter Evelyn, and the big stack o’ blankets. Friday night was the ceremonial opening of the show, delayed for a month until Evelyn was born and Marie could be here from New York. Marie spoke interestingly about her work and […]

Sketchbook Project
Nan sent me a link to the Sketchboook Project for 2012 and I decided to try it…the idea is fun. So I paid my money and my sketch book arrived yesterday…it’s pretty dinky…take a look…here it is compared to the one I’ve been carrying around… and there are rules…the most important one being that the […]
Reviewing:
Carolyn’s coming for our annual art week, which means combing through past work for ideas, methods, images. While looking at my photos I thought I might just post some of my own work…it’s MY blog after all? Mostly because all my posts of late look about the same and seem to be about trees. So…not […]
The leafy canopy…
So the very next morning after Alisa’s dinner I heard the now-all-too-familiar sound of chain saws buzzing. I ran out to the deck only to discover a guy in the 40 foot tall walnut tree in the yard behind us. I quickly snapped a picture of the tree before he got started… and ever hopeful […]
