It seems impossible to believe this, but 20 years ago we bought this little beach house on Siletz Bay. We’ve tinkered with it a little bit, but mostly it has been an oasis of calm in our busy lives, a family place. I’m entertaining myself this week with some before and after photos…here’s how our […]

Thursday was ART day…
And Thursday began wistfully, as I had to take down my show WHICH… I thought looked smashing (she said modestly…) but…time marches on and they have to sweep up and return the key to the space on Saturday so… …off we went, with a car full of art, as usual… and later on to […]
Wednesday was quilt day…
Mary lives in Tennessee but she keeps track of things. She emailed me that quilter Elizabeth Barton was going to speak on the 12th at the Columbia FiberArts Guild in Portland, so I went along to hear her. What a hoot. Barton is English, born and raised in York (though now living in Athens, Georgia)…and […]
Summer winding down…
We’re in denial about summer…we’re trying to do all the summer things still, and the sun IS shining… Today, after the car wash…(car wash fans…I think this series is amazing with the iPhone and here are three) we biked/walked at Minto and then headed to the MIG cart for lunch… only a couple weeks left […]
Nectarine Chutney, again…
Almost exactly 4 years ago I posted a recipe for nectarine chutney, so I dusted off the recipe and tried it again. Yep—delicious…though this year I served it over ice cream with a small chocolate biscotti. YUM! (I almost always buy local…with NO stickers…but this was an exception…oops)
Ouch!

A Sad Moment…
Today in the paper there was an article about the loss of the amazingly beautiful old oak tree in the Lord and Schryver home garden. One arborist thinks the tree might have been over four hundred years old, growing long before this area was settled…probably part of the oak groves that covered the Willamette Valley. […]
Virgin of Guadalupe
Last spring I went to a quilt romp in Alabama with a bunch of talented quilters. Victoria Findlay Wolfe was there, and she gave a bunch of us each one of her “Virgin of Guadalupe” originals (her own design) she’s had printed at Spoonflower. Here are a bunch of them… As the summer wanes I […]
…from the road…
This cracked me up…
Seattle quilts…
The first stop on the quilting tour last week took us to the Bellevue Art Museum where there is a wonderful show of the collection of African American quilts gathered by Corrine Riley…and they were pretty inspirational… with this as one of my favorites… and that was a pretty hard choice, as they were all […]
